A card trick that several spectators feel validated by.
The Magic Svengali deck is a true classic of card magic – not because it's complicated, but because of its powerful psychological effect. A particularly effective performance involves several spectators simultaneously believing they have their own card in mind , while the magician seemingly names it at the end.
1. The performance (as experienced by the audience)
The magician picks up a perfectly ordinary-looking deck of cards.
He mixes it loosely and holds it slightly to the side.
Then he lets the cards ripple calmly and evenly and says:
"Please just memorize one card. Don't say it out loud, just in your head."
While the cards pass by:
Does a spectator remember a card?
or several spectators simultaneously each choose one card
The magician doesn't look at the cards , but at the audience.
After riffling, he closes the deck of cards and puts it aside.
A brief moment of silence.
Then the magician names a single card .
And now the most powerful thing happens:
Several spectators nod.
Everyone believes their card has been called out.
The feeling of free choice is confirmed.
The effect is astonishing, calming, and very strong.
